You have to trust the person you ask totally, (firstly to say NO because you always hope that's the answer) and secondly to artfully highlight your better features if the answer is yes, like;
'Not really, but your boobs are WAY better than hers' and similar. You know do I look like this;

Dude, you choose two lovely first pics, which if you look like the women presented there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, and then some skanky nurse costume image for the third? What are those shoes? *run away!*

I play a slightly different version - I usually can tell if I am fat or more fat than a person - but I ask "Do I look that god-awful in my clothes or do I have better taste in what is flattering on my fatty-fat self?"
