Too far a parallel, even for me

I enjoy deciphering parallels, like mysteries waiting to be personally interpreted. For instance, the parallels between The Wizard of Oz and The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd (Thanks K!), The Book of Daniel chiasm or the parallel between 'Dreamgirls' the movie and The Supremes.
Some of these parallels are more obvious than others, more simplistic, for instance it doesn't take a genius to see that Diana Ross was a diva and so was 'Deena Jones.'

But a parallel between the two above? I didn't think so.
After watching (ok drooling through) Troy on Saturday night, and decided I wanted to read The Iliad, which is a poem along with the Odessey what the story of Troy was formed from, to further my personal education.
Conviently there is an large independant bookshop located near my work, so when I finished I bustled down and looked through the shelves.
I was greeted by the owner, as sensible looking gent with half moon glasses, deep in conversation with his friend about relationships and the renovations the shop was going through shortly.
Due to my limited time between shopping and getting to the station so I don't miss the infernal train I popped my head from round the stacks and asked,
"Do you have any Homer?"
He cocked his head to the side and said "Homer Simpson?"
"No... um like The Iliad" I said wrly, he obviously felt jaw droppingly stupid because he rushed over to history and said "No, Sorry, must be sold out - and I have no idea why I said Simpson."
I ended up buying out his Harry Potter range and he said "Homer and Harry, good cross section" - I replied with, "Yes, well, variety is the spice of life?"
Guess my personal education will have to wait.

Moving RIGHT along

Moving RIGHT along from last nights rant... to a little pampering.

Does anyone have a really terrific under eye dark circle treatment?
I knew the standard ones, cucumber (which I will trial as soon as we have cucumber) and tea bags which I think sounds awesful so I decided to research a little bit;

Clearly there seem to be more sensical ideas than others around.

I really need to get a good book to read (to avoid wondering about this sort of thing), I've just finished Schapelle Corby - My Story.
So far what I know to be true; Schapelle was arrested at Denpasar Airport with 4.1 or 4.2 kilo's of cannibis in her boogie board bag when travelling to Bali.
She was sentenced on May 27th 2005 to and finalised at 20 years in prison and ordered to pay a fine of 100,000,000 rupiah ($11701.60).
Release date is July, 2024 after two months remissions.
All of the other stuff that is reported, I do not know.
I have always thought it was exceedingly suspicious that one would risk thier life both importing something which is cheaper to buy in Bali, where the Indonesian judical system so radically different to our own.

I suppose guilty or not she is stuck in a third world gaol which makes me feel a little less silly for having my suitcase Protectabagged at Phuket airport.

Life as a Book Reviewer

Being the lucky duck I am, who has thoughtful relatives with fabulous taste, I recieved the Go Fug Yourself book for a birthday present.
(For all those who do not know about fug, I suggest you go immediatly to http://www.gofugyourself.com - the fashion blog of two hilarious bitches)
When I first heard they had a book out I thought, COOL! But who could be bothered ordering something from America *PFT*
Then I unwrapped it as a birthday present.
I sat all the way home on the train with my eyes greedily glued to the pages absorbing brand new material on the celebs we love to hate what they are wearing.
It was hard to turn the pages sometimes, wonder who they were going to issue the Sag Award to, awarded for most egregious misuse of the privilege of having breasts.
And not to leave out the boys, the prestegious award for Male in most imminent peril.
But the grand fugging of all fugs to have ever fugged the fugging earth , is reserved for the end for those who truely shame themselves almost everytime they exit the house.
Lets just say that a belted lime green pashmina was involved.
So thankyou my darling cousin!
Next book; Shapelle Corby - the somewhat controvesial autobiography in the did she or didn't she case.
