Girly things

I am LOVING the new girly inventions you can pick up for a song, from some very enterprising young ladies.

Sick of ruining your brand new heels with scuff marks?
Heel Angels are the answer!
Transparent plastic stips, acting (as far as I can tell) like sticky tape to protect your heels.

At $9.95 a pack - with discounts for the more you purchase it's a total winner!

http://www.heelangels.com/

Next stop is Pink Lilly - http://pinklily.com.au/

You're looking at the minililly3stack, for all your accesorries, the liploc - basically an elastic band keyring for your lippie(!!) and the bobinosmall to keep your earphones neat and tidy.
For $17 ministack, $19 for the liploc and a mear $5 for the bobino - why not be a lilly fan too!

How far is too far

Surely a theme is always nice for an event?
A cool non compulsary theme, that people can immerse themselves in as much or as little as they like.

For instance, my birthday coming up is at a Chinese Karaoke restaurant. I started to think about what I was going to wear, and thought... 'Wouldn't it be cute to maybe dress with an Asian feel'
This has since mophed into me looking at buying a China Doll wig & and Obi Belt (because the Japanese do karaoke too ok?!)
But how far is too far? I ask you?!?

False Economy

I think that all woman do it to some extent.
It's like something written in our DNA, something that ever so naggingly says; "Yes, you do need to buy that xxx for xxx that is not confirmed yet, BECAUSE IT'S ON SALE"

Look at this dress. It's beautiful. The photo does not do it justice, just a pity the online catalogue is so limited.
The straps and top of the bodice are a cobalt blue colour, gradienting into a lovely soft pink colour, and ending in a firey orange colour. The bodice (admittadly needs me to be a little less fat than I am currently) compliments my, er shape, and is impressive without being over the top.

Nearby my work is a George clothing warehouse. This gorgeous, silk hand dipped dress was $474 down to $150.
How could I ever pass it for that wedding that I don't even know if I am invited to much less have the invitation to.
Don't even get me started on the silver shoes I've decided to buy to accompany it.

But of course there is always a wedding I have next year (that's reaching a bit far) or the annual general meeting dinner (potentially reaching since I am still on probation & who knows what can happen!)

Life as a Movie Reviewer; Sex and the City

Shopping for Labels, Shopping for ... Sex and the City

First as a disclaimer I have to admit I am a fan of the series, and as such have a totally skewed view on the movie.
I also don't want to give away any spoilers for those who have not yet seen it.

The movie starts out almost saccharine sweet, with a whirlwind run down on the happenings of all the protagonists, where the girls are seemingly content and happy for the last several years later.
Like the morning after, happily ever after.

As all the subplots begin to unfurl, it begins entering your consciousness that the movie is struggling to find a format, a medium between series and film. The plot (for my money) was built up to a climax at ‘The Wedding’ – by all the film shorts – but this promoted ‘climax’ happens early on and I was pleased that momentum was not lost when the plot continued.
That scene (you know what I mean if you’ve seen it) was so heart wrenching, it was almost real for me, I think that is the best I have ever seen Sarah Jessica Parker.

I found the addition of the assistant, played by Jennifer Hudson, fluffy but unnecessary to be honest, as the film goes I wouldn’t imagine it lacking if that section of focused subplot was cut. JHud did look good I’ll give her that, all soft bosom next to SJP’s pointy edges.

Of course a review cannot neglect to mention the couture. I read that Carrie wore 83 outfits, and the majority of them were a cacophony of designer labels, over the knee stockings, Eiffel tower handbags, shoe boots and bejeweled and flowered rouched dresses amongst my more loathed outfits.
Carrie’s style has always shot into the ‘eclectic’ stratosphere of course. And love it or hate it but 'that' wedding dress by Vivianne Westwood was a masterpeice.
Charlotte’s style as always was flawless and polished princess which played off Samantha’s sex kitten wardrobe but for my money I applauded Miranda’s look throughout the movie (with exception of leopard catsuit?) and complimented her figure and colouring.

All in all, I found the movie touching and comforting. Like having your favourite jumper returned to you in time for winter.
I didn’t find anything contrite or forced about the performances, and it left me almost wanting more but knowing that I didn’t want any sad sequel.
All in all, a pleasing result.

... always thine, always mine, ever ours...

Life as a Fashion Critic; part 3

Trucker Chic ... is defiantly a style which I am unhappy to see the continued proliferation.
This is SportsGirls offering of a 'dress' along with another trucker inspired flannel nightmare which looks exactly like this one. Is it too difficult to make a lovely sexy little dress, a girl can wear with some heels? Apprently...
Sportsgirl do have some nice little tops, and a rather hideous 'Fur Collar Gillet' so popular it has sold out online, what a shame.
Seems Just Jeans and JeansWest have avoided rocking out with flannies,
can't say the same for JayJays 'On the Streets' range though. Nearly every SES variety of cheap (and nasty) clothing store has a form of this, with varients including baby doll, tight under the bust, belted etc. Of course, you can't swing a pair of leggins in Supre or Ice without hitting a flannie... in fact you can't swing anything in Supre because they are always crammed to the max with clothes rails just stepping in makes you feel like an elephant. And you better Valley Girl are in on it!

This cute little dress is immediatly discounted because ValleyGirl have decided to name is a 'SACK DRESS' I kid you not.

Queen of the Slouch

Mischa Barton has probably been emblazoned as Queen of many things by many a different magazine editor.

Queen of Rich Teen Angst by Girlfriend magazine,
Queen of the Sexy Lithe body by Ralph magazine,
Queen of Cellulite by Who/Any trash magazine

But none so prestigious a title as the one I have elected.

Mischa Barton is QUEEN OF THE SLOUCH
Look at that posture.... why? Why is she doing that?
Is it a by-product of going out with the grease factory Brendan Davies (or whatever his name was, you know who I mean) who was a foot short than her, so she was forced to slouch?

Oh my god... Nicole Kidman Syndrome?
I am beginning to see a pattern here...

THEN; shoulders rolled AND NOW: Still short bloke but upstanding

Look! THEN: AND With something called Cisco Adler

Life as a Fatty

I know I do it, I know my friends do it.
Do you ever look at a rather plump person, and think 'am I as fat as them?'
You have to trust the person you ask totally, (firstly to say NO because you always hope that's the answer) and secondly to artfully highlight your better features if the answer is yes, like;
'Not really, but your boobs are WAY better than hers' and similar. You know do I look like this;

this, or this?

Life as a Scarf lover

Going into cooler weather I get excited at the plethora of new scarves proliferating the markets.
I bought a new scarf today :)
A light autumnal transitional scarf in pink and black check. Flipping through the masses of folded coloured scarves I came to just the right shade of pink, took it to the counter and purchased.

Get home, depackage scarf to reveal it is a 'desert scarf' or
Shemagh - I have inadvertently bought something trendy!! Oh no, I feel the immediate need to don my (non-existent) skinny jeans and walk around looking sullen, or morph into an aged Arab man or Che Guevara. It's not trying to look cool if I didn't realise RIGHT?
Trendoid factor aside, I didn't realise the symbolism of the item. The shemagh or keffiyeh is something of a symbol of Palestinian solidarity (which I don't have a problem with, lots of good people have come from Palestine) and Wikipedia have this to add;
As with other articles of clothing worn in wartime, such as the T-shirt and khaki pants, the keffiyeh has been seen as chic among non-Arabs in the West, who may be uninterested in politics, the military, or both.
Well bother it... I just like it, is that okay?

Life as a Book Reviewer

Being the lucky duck I am, who has thoughtful relatives with fabulous taste, I recieved the Go Fug Yourself book for a birthday present.
(For all those who do not know about fug, I suggest you go immediatly to http://www.gofugyourself.com - the fashion blog of two hilarious bitches)
When I first heard they had a book out I thought, COOL! But who could be bothered ordering something from America *PFT*
Then I unwrapped it as a birthday present.
I sat all the way home on the train with my eyes greedily glued to the pages absorbing brand new material on the celebs we love to hate what they are wearing.
It was hard to turn the pages sometimes, wonder who they were going to issue the Sag Award to, awarded for most egregious misuse of the privilege of having breasts.
And not to leave out the boys, the prestegious award for Male in most imminent peril.
But the grand fugging of all fugs to have ever fugged the fugging earth , is reserved for the end for those who truely shame themselves almost everytime they exit the house.
Lets just say that a belted lime green pashmina was involved.
So thankyou my darling cousin!
Next book; Shapelle Corby - the somewhat controvesial autobiography in the did she or didn't she case.

Life as a Fashion Critic; part 2

Hi y'all! Comin' up in the late news...

I didn't know that a deflated Dolly Pardon has started to read the news...

Oh wait on that's Sandra Sully! And she appears to be wearing someone's 80's formal dress, serious lookit.

WHAT IS WITH THE SLEAVES? AND THE HAIR? It looks like it's taken root in some really good fertilizer (main stream news?) and is now growing uncontrollably out of her ears!

This is not the apperance of a profession serious news anchor person, in fact I want to (and have) mock her, and harken onto sensible Sandra Sully. A Sandra who had sensible hair, wore a suit and didn't look like they were in a Cindy Lauper video.
MAN visual aids are so helpful.

Life as a Fashion Critic

Look don't get me wrong, I think Jennifer Hawkins is a very lovely girl, a good looking model who looks healthy and like she eats food BUT I am a pro Megan Gale in the battle of the big stores.
Megan for Dj's Jen for Myer in that dress

Oh Hawko, Hawko, Hawko, Hawko. When sashaying down the catwalk in a full length Toni Maticevski gown (see above) Jen got her shoe caught on the end of the dress (probably puncturing the couture as well) but managed to avert the disaster of falling flat on her face, unlike the infamous skirt incident which left her a little red faced.

I know I find it difficult to not get my heel caught in full skirts, in fact at my cousins wedding I put about four holes in the bottom of my skirt, one of which when I was walking down the ailse causing me to nearly be aisle-roadkill.
But I am not a model who makes a living off oozing sex down the catwalk.

Life as a fashionista

Lets first make it clear. I don't particularlly like Kylie Minogue's solo music efforts. I quite like her colabrotive efforts, think Nick Cave and Robbie Williams.
Congrats to her for battling cancer, and taking love rat Olivier back or whatever (he is HOT.)

But either she has recently fired her stylist or she's gotten mad cow disease because this is abomination is what she turned up to at the Cannes NRJ Music Awards.
Its three feet of shoulder pads away from being some tragic 80's disaster of a formal outfit, and instead of the taffeta sash (being tied in the normal sashy manner) she's thought 'hang it all' and tied it around her groin.
Her super cute bobby hair cut is scrapped back from her face, and in need of a root job?

Now what about this face, something is going on there. Her eyebrows have these bizarre unnatural over- accentuated arch.
Nobody likes this dress (I can't find a redeeming feature??)

I know everyone deserves a miss but what about this? She's shoving her tiny little frame into a skin and looking like a little undernourished Christmas ham. -------------------->
At least I like the colour of it... and the hair doesn't make me want to have a physical reaction.
<-She can look adorable sometimes and it's a real shame to sort of see fashion victim outfits befouling on of our usually better dressed Aussie female... (Cate is so hit and miss!) Sure Im not a fan of the pucciesque pattern, but the shape, the hair, the dark sunnies! GREAT.

ps; I love visual aids!
