Help unmask the mystery of Multiple Sclerosis
Saturday 1st May 2010 - GPO, Martin Place, Sydney

The Mystery Events Association Inc. is this year hosting the MS Masquerade ball in the luxurious surrounds of the GPO. Funds raised will be used to keep up the fight to find a cure for this mysterious disease.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the Central Nervous System - the brain, the spinal cord and the optic nerves. MS is the most common neurological disease that affects young adults. The majority of people diagnosed are female and in their early adult years, often in the prime of their careers or family lives.
There are approximately 20,000 people with MS in Australia alone. This incidence of MS is increasing by 7% per year and it is estimated that the financial cost is close to $2 billion.

I wish I was attending this fantastic event, and hope to spread the word - get some more awareness in the hope that we can combat this terrible disease.

The Rolling Stones have collectively been the focus of some great music documentaries - Gimme Shelter ; Shine a Light ; Sympathy for the Devil.

Now it's time for the band's guitarist, Keith Richards to go solo with his own doc. With Johnny Depp to direct!! According to The Playlist .

Annual Bird Singing Contest, Thailand

I love the idea of this, a whole gaggle of Thai gentlemen carousing and discussing the better points of bird fancying.

Bird singing contests are held annually in the Narathiwat province, Thailand between January and July. The competitions are taken seriously and with the caged doves raised on poles three to six metres tall, judges listen to the songs and award points according to pitch, melody and volume.

The Show

Well, I hope everyone had a splendid Easter. I certainly did, even though it was devioid of the usual extended family touches.

I managed to visit The Sydney Family Show, say what? Not the Easter Show, but a fair and free equivilent.

There was the obligatory rides, show bags, markets and kiddy fun. Now it didn't have the sparkle or polish of the Easter show but it was a good day out and a lovely day.

Well like my last 'post' said... it has been a while.

A lot has happened, but I will try not to dwell on what has been. I've decided to try a new tact on my blogging. Talk about things I actually like!
Now, I don't think I should restrict myself by saying that I will not share things that rub me the wrong way but I'd like to focus on the better things in life.

It all started with juice. Yes, juice.
Sitting at the airport, hung over I opened this juice which changed my life.

Why won't you open your tender little heart?

I got a strange gift for my birthday from a supplier *scandal*

I open the GIANT box, thinking it would be chocolate, only to find a perspex box. With a strange stuffed creature (for want of a better word) named 'Chuck' holding a Chupa Chup inside.

After some conjecture, I finally find out what 'Chuck' is. And I am amused.

Interesting

I find cemetaries, particularly old ones very fascinating. Nothing ghouhish, just the artistry of the headstones and some of the epitaphs.

I got to visit one of the oldest cemetaries in Sydney on Australia Day, a site where some of the first settlers were buried after they settled out in Castlereagh, Old Castlereagh cemetery apprently dates back to 1814.

One of them has this written on it;

How far is too far

Surely a theme is always nice for an event?
A cool non compulsary theme, that people can immerse themselves in as much or as little as they like.

For instance, my birthday coming up is at a Chinese Karaoke restaurant. I started to think about what I was going to wear, and thought... 'Wouldn't it be cute to maybe dress with an Asian feel'
This has since mophed into me looking at buying a China Doll wig & and Obi Belt (because the Japanese do karaoke too ok?!)
But how far is too far? I ask you?!?

It's movie, it's movie time!

Shockingly enough there are a few movies, I wouldn't mind seeing at the moment.

I cannot wait to see Ghost Town - I love Ricky Gervais, I cannot control my laughter in anything he's in Extra's, The Office. Love it. Greg Kinnear I can take or leave, he's probably fairly under rated as an actor but he looks really good in this film.
I am slightly concenred, because it was writen and directed by David Koepp, who did the most recent Indiana Jones also of War of the Worlds, Spiderman, Panic Room fame. Bit of a mixed bag but fingers crossed! Pre released this weekend, so if I get the chance I might take myself off to see it.

Shamelessly I am also looking forward to seeing He's Just Not That Into You.
Writen from the book, which shot to fame after it's mention in Sex and the City. The cast is the definition of star studded.
Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Drew Barrymore and even a camero by writer Marc Silverstein.I know it's probably not destined for greatness, no Oscars in the offing but I am hoping that it will be entertaining enough to not be a waste of $16.50.

Self Indulgence

For my 25th birthday, (I warn people now, I do not want to hear the phrase 'quarter century)I've been thinking about gifting myself some 'silly self indulgent' photos.

Not the regular run of the mill, slap on some paint, point and shoot ones through. Lovely but boring.

I want something I could frame, and almost have people not know it was me. Artwork even, but not in the traditional Leo painting Kate kinda way.

Much to my joy, and then dismay, Vaig have a whole section of body art (some of which are not my cup of tea) but some are almost exactly what I want.

My dismay enters, where I swore off Vaig for being horrid rip off artists who conned my cousin into something she couldn't afford.
But pretty cool eh?

Life as a Dreamer

I had a strange and vivid, almost reoccuring dream early this morning. I woke up at 5am and went back to sleep heavily, and dreamed.

A version of the same dream before I am sure, I had a definate sense of deva ju when I woke.
A friend and I were running down through Sydney Harbour, and down all these docks. Eventually we start running over all these little wooden wharves floating on the water. The docks started getting further and further apart, and eventually they get so far apart we can't jump onto them and fall into the water.
We start swimming, and in this case (increase strangeness factor) we end up in Goulburn??? ODD. Dad assures me you probably could swim to Goulburn, via rivers etc, so that makes me feel less silly!
Wonder what it all means?

Birthday Plans, gone awry

Well I had an idea for my birthday.

I don't as a general rule, have massive plans for my birthday but I thought since it was the big 25 I'd put my back into it and PARTY.

Two options for my birthday came up, I made the call and finessed the idea.

Made and sent out invitations.

And then it all went to hell in a hand cart.

I found out that I had invited some people who I hadn't really mean't to invite and although I feel confident they would decline, I wouldn't know what to do with if they did attend.

So I recalled the invite (lol Indian giving, is especially amusing because the original place was Indian for a bollywood night) to later recreate it and correct this mistake.

Only to find that the venue had double booked my request!

So back to the second option!

Yahoo? We lost $458m but its ok

So what Yahoo! have reported a US $303 million dollar lost, in the last three months alone of 2008? CEO Carol Batrz still has a peppy optimism about 2009 saying ‘We have work to do, but I am excited by Yahoo’s! Opportunities.’

I guess she’d want to be or the share holders will lynch her. What a frightening thought that companies that that much to lose!Like the German billionaire, Adolf Merckle, who committed suicide after his empire ‘ran into trouble’ with this recent financial crisis. It was been reported he ran up losses of about 400m euros - $535m!! After a loss on Volkswagon shares.

Even haute couture is suffering, with people becoming self proclaimed ‘rescissionistas’ and glossy mags publishing ‘Recessionista Fabulous’ articles!!

It seems everyone is getting wise to the ‘belt tightening’ except our fat friend, Ronald. McDonalds that is reporting an 80 per cent profit rise!

I must confess, working in the confectioney industry, we haven't felt any slow down. If nothing else we are going very well, as is evident, people get depressed and eat junk food!

Better late than never

In natural self-styling, I get the urge to revamp my blog at quarter to ten! So just a quick post to apologise for being a bad blogger with promise of more to come soon.

How to lose friends and alienate me

I was excited to see that they had converted Toby Young’s memoir of his failed attempt to ‘make it’ in the US.

I was even more excited to see Simon Pegg, who I think is HILARIOUS, starring. Have you seen Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Run Fat Boy Run? The man is a genius, especially along side Nick Frost.
Also starring Megan Fox (who?), Gillian Anderson and Jeff Bridges. I have mixed feeling about this casting, but it’s really Kirsten ‘Kiki’ Dunst that leaves me cold.
I still feel the pain of paying money to see ‘Mona Lisa Smile’ *shudder* and can’t say that I have seen a movie with her in it I have truly enjoyed.
The Virgin Suicides was weird, maybe I’m not arty enough but I thought it was lame. Nor am I an MJ fan, perhaps Kiki’s portrayal of Spiderman’s flame is only as good as the script she’d given? Of course I’ve seen ‘Bring It On’ which is inoffensive enough, I guess.
I am morbidly curious about Marie Antoinette, but I have had little luck with Sofia Coppola movies. Lost in Translation, for me, was carried off by Bill Murray and to a lesser degree Scarlet Johansson and strange mesh panties.

I get worried, when there is a movie out that I have a desire to see. At, what is it now, $16.50 a pop? If my movie experience isn’t a sure thing I don’t want to jeopardise spending that much for a luke warm experience. Or is that just me?
